The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) plans to close portions of Shawnee Mission Parkway during the next two weekends. KDOT will close the section above I-35 to resurface the roadway. The department said the closure should save crews at least three weeks of construction work – causing less headaches for Merriam drivers.
All westbound lanes of Shawnee Mission Parkway between I-35 and Mastin St. will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, July 14 through 5 a.m. on Monday, July 17. Only eastbound motorists can travel on Shawnee Mission Parkway. Drivers should use Antioch Road to Johnson Drive or 75th St. as a detour.
KDOT said access from westbound Shawnee Mission Parkway to I-35 northbound will remain open, but access to I-35 southbound will be closed.
Starting on Friday, July 21, all eastbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. through 5 a.m. on July 24. Only westbound motorists can drive along the roadway. Drivers should use Nieman Road to Johnson Drive or 75th St.
