Today, IKEA announced the continuation of its “5,000 Dreams” program to help provide beds and bedding to local refugee families in our community, and across the country in 46 other local IKEA markets. Over the next month, IKEA Merriam will be donating 113 beds and bedding to newly-arrived refugee families in the Kansas City area as they start new lives in America.
The current international refugee crisis is one of the greatest, most complex of our generation. Today, the number of people displaced from their homes by violence and persecution is unprecedented in human history. Here in U.S., IKEA launched “5,000 Dreams” in 2017 in partnership with three refugee organizations, to donate 5,000 beds and bedding over the course of two years to refugees to provide one of the most basic comforts of home as they make a fresh start.
IKEA donated the first 2,200 beds and bedding in 2017, and will continue the program by donating an additional 2,800 across the country in March and April.
