Merriam Police Department proclaims "Click It or Ticket" enforcement blitz a success

MERRIAM, KANSAS (June 3, 2012) – The Merriam Police Department today announced the results from the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization held May 21 – June 3, 2012.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Kansas participated in this nationwide high visibility enforcement effort. During the Click It or Ticket period, the Merriam Police Department reported 190 citations issued with almost 40 hours of enforcement with the following results:

Seat Belt Citations - 141
Child Restraint Citations - 5
Other Citations - 44

“We sent the Click It or Ticket message out loud and clear this year,” said Master Police Officer John De Moss. “Hopefully we’ll continue to see an increase in belt use and a decrease in preventable fatalities on our roadways as a result.”

In an effort to save more lives by convincing all motorists to always wear their seat belts, the Merriam Police Department joined forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and other state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners to launch a high visibility enforcement initiative and a variety of outreach activities that included television and radio promotions combined with high visibility enforcement in targeted markets where fatalities have been most prevalent.
