Merriam seeks candidates to fill two vacant City Council seats

MERRIAM, KS (January 13, 2015) -- The City of Merriam currently has two vacant positions on the City Council -- one vacancy in Ward 1 and one in Ward 4. The terms for each of these positions will expire in April 2017.
Beginning January 13, 2015, individuals seeking appointment to the vacant City Council positions must submit a letter of interest and statement of qualifications to the City Clerk. These documents can be submitted in person or by mail to Merriam City Hall, 9001 W 62nd Street, Merriam, KS 66202; or by fax to 913.322.5505. The deadline for candidate submissions is 4:30 pm, February 12, 2015.
Individuals selected to fill these vacancies will be appointed by the City Council in accordance with Merriam Code of Ordinances Section 2-27. To be eligible for these appointments candidates must be a “qualified elector,” which means the person must be a registered voter in the City and ward at the time of appointment.
The City Council will interview all qualified candidates within 30 days following the February 12, 2015 deadline.
