A coin flip may determine who represents Merriam residents in Ward 2 after a tied vote on Nov. 7 between incumbent City Council member Brian Knaff and Patty Newkirk.
According to the Johnson County Elections Office, the county’s Board of Canvassers will review provisional ballots on Monday, Nov. 13 at 9 a.m. If it’s still a tie, the board will flip a coin at the meeting to see who will represent the City’s Ward 2 residents.
The Board of Canvassers will review unofficial results at the Johnson County Elections Office (2101 E. Kansas City Road) and the meeting is open to the public. After going through all the provisional votes, the board will determine the official final election results for Merriam and the rest of the county.
In other unofficial election results, Mayor Ken Sissom and councilmembers Scott Diebold and Christine Evans Hands will return for new terms on the governing body. They will be joined by David Neal from Ward 4, who defeated incumbent councilmember Cheryl Moore.
