There’s a new face on Merriam’s City Council. David Neal took the oath of office on Jan. 8 at the first council meeting of the year.
Neal was elected in November and will represent Ward 4 during the next four years.
The City’s newest councilmember has a background in construction, engineering and information technology. He also has served on a state advisory committee of the Kansas Department of Revenue's Property Valuation Division for more than twenty years. Neal said his expertise will be useful in helping make policy decisions for the City of Merriam.
"I moved to Merriam 13 years ago and fell in love with one of the best kept secrets in the Kansas City metro area,” Neal said. “With its strategic location near most major transit corridors, its strong retail presence, a historic downtown, and an eclectic mix of comfortable residential neighborhoods, I wish to contribute to the future of my hometown community."
Returning Mayor Ken Sissom and Councilmembers Scott Diebold, Ward 1; Brian Knaff, Ward 2; and Christine Hands, Ward 3 also took their oaths of office at last night’s City Council meeting. They will serve four-year terms.
