Spring showers are in store for us this weekend, which makes it the perfect opportunity to begin thinking about ways to eliminate water pollution and erosion with the Merriam Stormwater Program.
The City of Merriam is again partnering with residents to improve stormwater quality with a 50 percent matching grant. The grant money will go to residents who want to incorporate a stormwater treatment facility on their property to help absorb water generated from rain and snow melt.
The City will provide 50 percent match assistance to help offset material costs or contract labor associated with the instillation for the following:
•Rain garden – up to $1,000
•Rain barrel – up to $75
•Native plants – up to $1,000
•Native trees – up to $150.
“We are excited to once again partner with Johnson County to provide Merriam residents the opportunity to reduce stormwater runoff and improve water quality throughout our community,” City Administrator Chris Engel said.
To be eligible for reimbursement, residents must complete their stormwater project by Oct. 31, 2018. Visit merriam.org/stormwater for an application and to see how you can qualify for the matching grant or call David Easley with the Community Development Department at 913-322-5520 with any questions.
