The City of Merriam recently received an award for construction work done last year on Johnson Drive.
The American Council of Engineering Companies of Kansas (ACEC-KS) awarded the City with Engineering Excellence for the Johnson Drive Improvement Project. The award recognizes unique and innovated engineering projects.
Merriam worked with Affinis Corp. to improve Johnson Drive from West City Limits to Kessler Lane. Construction began last June and was completed in October. It included a 14-day complete road closure of Johnson Drive between the BNSF Railroad tracks and Turkey Creek Bridge. The project was comprised of Johnson Drive being completely repaved, ADA compliant sidewalks, and new street lighting for pedestrians.
ACEC-KS presented the award at the March 25 City Council meeting.
